Life Highlights –

What you have told us about yourself these last 40 years

1972 – Elaine and Rollin have two children, Shawn Russell (4.5) and Michelle DeEtte (2). Elaine worked for the Nebraska United Methodist Offices up until Rollin got drafted into the Army. They lived in Monterrey, California for one month while he was stationed at Fort Ord, and then in Schweinfurt, Germany for 18 months while he was stationed at Ledwaed Barracks. Her parents flew over and met them in Oslo, Norway and then they traveled by train to Stockholm, Copenhagen and back into Germany and took a boat up the Rhine River to Mainz. They also went down through the Black Forest and into Switzerland. Shawn was born in the Wurzburg Army hospital, which was an experience in itself. Her two kids are now her full-time occupation. She tried her hand at bowling on a league with the girls, but decided her talents took a different direction. They have been to California twice (making a stop in Reno), Texas twice (one trip to see Nebraska get beat in the Cotton Bowl), Las Vegas, and Colorado several times. She enjoys sewing and is hoping to learn to crochet in the near future.

1982 – Elaine and “Mich” have 2 children, Shawn a 9th grader at Millard Lefler and Michelle a 7th grader. Elaine started working at United Methodist Offices in December 1962, where she worded until “Mitch got drafted into the Army in 1966. Shawn was born in Wurzburg, Germany and was 5 months old when they got back to Lincoln. She worked part-time at the Methodist Offices from 1969 to 1974 when she went back full-time. She has been office manager sine 1978. “Mitch” has worked at Goodyear for 18 years.

1987 – Elaine has worked at United Methodist Headquarters for 25 years, since 198 she has been office manager. “Mich” and Elaine have two children, Shawn (19) a graduate of Lincoln East and Michelle (17) a senior at Lincoln High. Elaine enjoys crafts and every year she and her sister operate a Christmas craft boutique called “Elf’s Korner”.

1997 – We are finally having a wedding in our family – Michelle is marrying John Lyons on Nov. 22nd. We go to the Goodyear Rec Center 3 times a week. Enjoy traveling – like to spend a week or so in LaJolla right after Christmas.

2002 – My husband had a heart attack in January of 1998 that did so much damage he had to take disability retirement from Goodyear. I don’t plan to retire for quite awhile as long as I stay healthy. Mich goes daily to the Goodyear Recreation Center and I try to go at least 3 times a week. Michelle got married in November 1997 and Shawn was just married on June 29th of this year. We still love to travel around and go whenever we get a chance. My mother turned 89 this year and is still going strong. We almost lost her 2 years ago, so we look at every day as a gift.

2007 – I’m a grandmother! Twice! I had just announced that I’d never have grandchildren and after 7 years Michelle went to a fertility clinic and once they removed a cyst – she got pregant! At the same time, at 36 years old, Shawn got married and 11 months after Chlow arrived (she was a 2 lb 4 oz premie – but no problems) we got Polly. The girls are the best of friends and both live in Lincoln. Mitch has had to overcome some real health issues, but after going on a 6-week study drug, 18 months ago, he is able to do things we never thought possible several years back. We are still in our house, but it’s getting harder and harder to take care of! He had to take medical retirement after his first heart attack, but I will continue to work as long as I am able to. I have promised Bishop Sherer I will stay 5 more years so we can both leave at the same time. 2012 I will retire after having worked at the U.M. Conference Office for 50 years and it will be our 50th class reuion!  My mother died June of 2005 at the age of 92. She was avery special lady. We were the “4 DeEttes” – Edna DeEtte, Elaine DeEtte, Michelle DeEtte, and Chloe DeEtte – now we are 3.
