Life Highlights –

What you have told us about yourself these past 40 years

1972 –

1982 – Loretta and Robert have 2 children, John (4½) and Kathleen (2). Loretta earned a PhD from Cornell University in 1972 and teaches economics at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

1987 – Loretta teaches economics at Nebraska Wesleyan University in the Business Department. In 1984, Bob took unpaid leave fro his job and the family spent six months in Monterrey, Mexico, where Loretta re-did her dissertation research on US and Mexican firms. She says, “Having a maid was great!” In her spare time, Loretta forces the kids (John (10) and Kathleen (7)) to practice Suzuki piano with her. She also reads novels, tries to get back into jogging and is involved in church activities.

1997 –

2002 – Hello from ‘down under’!! I really regret not being able to be with you at the reunion – I’d like to be in two places at once – but it has taken us two years to arrange this sabbatical, after 10 years [instead of the usual 7]. We arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday, July 3rd and will be here 13 months. Bob and I are still married [a great blessing for me!], still teaching at Nebraska Wesleyan – tearing our hair out over the ‘new generation’s’ inability to learn independently – and still living in the same house 4 blocks from work. Son John [25] went to school at Wesleyan, then visited Japan before earning a masters degree in International Management at Thunderbird (Arizona). He is currently for Northrup Grumman in Baltimore, MD. Daughter Kathy [22] just graduated from Grinnell College. I’m still enjoying my work, but badly needed this break. Bob’s been ‘over-working’ at the 150-175% level for years, depending on what ‘extra’ assignments the dean gives him. I only have the energy for doing 90% of my teaching job but it takes all my time, including breaks. I enjoy it greatly, especially the advising, but am probably only about 5 years from retirement. I still struggle with my depression but medication is working okay. Thanks to my classmates for making this all happen. I’d love to hear from you.
