Life Highlights –

What you have told us about yourself these past 40 years

1972 – Kathy attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for 1˝ years. She is now a housewife and Secretary Cashier-Clerk for Norris Public Power. She handles all business for Jefferson County and she and Ken have a farm and cattle feeding business. She is active in the Helvey United Methodist Church. Is secretary of the local Conference of the United Methodist Church, is on the Fairbury Community Chest Board of Directors, is secretary  for the Fairbury Mrs. Jaycees. She was married April 24th, 1966 and moved to Ken’s farm north of Fairbury. They have had vacations through Oklahoma, the Ozarks, to Six Flags over Texas, Dallas Ft Worth, and Galveston and up through Minnesota. Kathy enjoys swimming, hunting, and camping in her spare time. They have camped out at Tuttle Creek Res. And Lake McConaughy. They have a Honda and enjoy just taking off for a while. When she gets a chance, she likes to sew and knit.

1982 – Kathy attended Nebraska Wesleyan for 1 ˝ years then married Ken Starr in April ’66. They live n a farm north of Fairbury. She worked for Norris Public Power as secretary-clerk of Jefferson County until October ’74, when their daughter, Lynn was born. She now works for (and with) Ken tilling the soil and hauling the grain and loves the out-of-doors. She is Vice-president of the United Presbyterian Women’s Society and the Fairbury School PTA President for ’82-’83.

1987 – Ken and Kathy farm north of Fairbury. Kathy works the ground and Ken plants. They share the business and she also does the bookkeeping and takes care of house, yard, and their daughter Lynn (12). Kathy is an elder at the Fairbury Presbyterian church, serves as Secretary of the Trustees, vice-president of United Presbyterian Women’s Society, and teaches Sunday School. She has been a state PTA Board member in charge of cultural arts and received a PTA State Honorary Life Award. She is also a 4-H leader and is on the Style Review Board for the county Fair. When she isn’t tending her big garden, she and Ken attend Lynn’s softball games.

1997 – Ken and I have farmed north of Fairbury since 1996. I have also worked for Farm Service Agency of Jefferson County, where I pre-measure producers and did spot checks in the field. In 1993 I started crop insurance adjusting for FSA then in 1996 began with crop loss adjusting service. I work from Grand Island to Lincoln area. I am still active in our farming operation. I run the combine now and Ken trucks. Biggest event for us at this point in time is planning Lynn’s wedding, which will be March 1998. We are still active in our church planning on building a new church in the next 2 years.

2002 – Still farming at the same location since 1966. I am also a crop insurance adjustor. In 1995 our daughter Lynn and husband David moved to Apex, North Carolina – so we enjoy driving to spend time with them. Usually 3 weeks in early spring and either Christmas of Thanksgiving for 3 weeks. We enjoy going through the mountains.
